The North Korean Type-07 Prototype Supergun is one of the strongest variant of an artillery cannon in Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction.
Overview[]
The Prototype Supergun is an archetype of the Type-07 Supergun, the biggest artillery in the game. They share similar range, damage and dimensions, although the prototype is slightly smaller and fixed to the ground. The prototype gun is not armed with radioactive shells unlike the definitive one. The Supergun project was headed by Chin Chang and Ji An.
There are two models of this prototype in the game. One is located behind The Black Gate, in the NK Fortress, under the watch of the Jack of Diamonds, and it is the main objective of the contract 'Master of None'. The other one is placed on top of a hill on Kirin-Do Island, above the proper Supergun, both managed by the Ace of Diamonds. Both the Type-07 and its Prototypes are heavily armored, and require a powerful weapon, such as the Bunker Buster Bomb, the Cruise Missile Strike, or 2 rounds from another Type-07 to destroy them. Unlike the real Supergun, the prototypes haven't a built in radar jammer, making them more vulnerable.
Tactics[]
The Type-07 Prototype Supergun is a very powerful weapon, but it is not very useful for the player. The viewfinder can't go below a predetermined height, making it impossible to hit targets on the ground at close distance. Additionally the weapon is slow to move and recharges very slowly. The only good use of it is to destroy the main Supergun during the contract 'The Guns of Kirin-Do'.
Real life[]
Just like the actual one, the Type-07 Prototype SuperGun is supposedly inspired by the Iraqi Project Babylon Supergun and the German's "Schwerer Gustav" Dora Railgun.
Trivia[]
- The prototype on the Southern Province can be controlled by the player just like the other one. To do this the gunner on the cockpit must be killed with any explosive, then the weapon can be entered from the white door like the other superguns. Nevertheless not very much can be done with this one.
- As we can read on his ExOps bio, Ji An traded with Middle-eastern nationals and experts on supergun technology, meaning that the supergun can actually have some connections with Iraqi's Project Babylon.
