Exit strategy command center

The South Korean Command Center

Exit Strategy is the eighth contract for the Chinese and the second contract for them in the third act of Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction.

Overview[]

The contract involves destroying the South Korean command center in Sinuiju Downtown to allow Chinese forces to advance into the city.

Objectives[]

  1. Destroy SK command center

BONUS: Additional amount paid for destruction of certain marked targets

Supplies & Support Given[]

  • Artillery Strike - $40,000
  • Artillery Barrage - $80,000
  • Artillery Bombardment - $120,000
  • Chinese BJ2020 Scout Delivery - $9,600
  • Chinese Supply Drop - $4,800
  • Heavy Weapons Drop - $6,400

The Contract[]

Sinuiju has been heavily garrisoned by the South Koreans during this contract. The entrance is guarded by multiple grenade MG and recoilless rifle nests, so a South Korean disguise is strongly advised. There are also two K200 Surveillance radar jammers located in the city. Further into the city you will find numerous roadblocks with more recoilless rifles and heavy MGs, so maintaining a good disguise is crucial for survival (the only officers present in the city are in the far southeastern corner). K200 APCs are stationed around the area, as are soldiers equipped with SAM launchers.

Your first order of business should be taking care of those jammers. The one in the center of the city can be easily dealt with by driving to the street north of it (there will be a single SAM launcher soldier here) and taking it out with an anti-tank missile launcher. Quickly hop back into your SK vehicle and hide to regain your disguise. The other jammer can be taken out in a similar manner, but be careful of the grenade MGs set up around it.

With the jammers gone you can now utilize airstrikes to take out the building. Head back to the entrance of the city and to the left look for the wall around the city. Head around there until you can see the first marked building. Use a satellite based airstrike (such as the Strategic Missile Strike) to take it out. While the missile is in flight quickly jump into your vehicle to gain a disguise as an LHX Light Attack will appear in this position as soon as the building is destroyed. with that building now gone, head to the next one around the corner. Once again get back into your vehicle immediately as two more LHXs will arrive (be warned that even with a disguise they may still shoot you).

Now head back to the city's entrance and this time go right of the entrance, following the wall once again. When you reach the end of the wall you will be able to target the command center with a laser guided airstrike. Once the building is destroyed the contract will be complete.

The value of the contract is $100,000 plus an additional $50,000 per marked target (excluding the SK command center). Completing this contract will also make the Type 95 Anti-Air available for purchase from the Merchant of Menace. Intel regarding the location of the Five of Hearts will also be given.

Subject: Contract: 'Exit Strategy'

I have a suspicion that the South Koreans intercepted some of the recent Chinese communications - the civilian population is now nowhere to be seen, and there are APCs patrolling the streets. Wonderful.

The player walks into the HQ. Captain Leu and Colonel Peng are having a conversation

  • Captain Leu: (in Chinese) She/He is a mercenary! The South Koreans could employ her/him as well!
  • Colonel Peng: (in Chinese) Then I would have her killed. I will not permit betrayal of my trust.

Colonel Peng turns his attention to the mercenary

  • Colonel Peng: Thanks to the codes you retrieved for us, we know the South Korean's ambitions in this area. They mean to take and hold the city of Sinuiju. They have established an advance base. You will destroy this base, and the People's Army will move in behind you and take the city.

The player remains in the HQ

  • Colonel Peng: I long to see the look on Buford's face when he realizes I have broken his codes.

The player still remains in the HQ

  • Colonel Peng: Of course, once he realizes, he will change them, but this one operation will be enough.

The player continues to remain in the HQ

  • Colonel Peng: Why are you still here?!

The player accepts the contract

  • Fiona: I can't say I've ever been paid to start a war between two countries.
    • Chris: They're starting it all by themselves. I'm just being paid to fight it.
    • Jennifer: Just call us the Black Hand.
    • Mattias: For me it's more of a hobby.

The player destroys the SK command center

  • Fiona: That does it! You'd better get out of there before the South Koreans regroup and start looking for stragglers.

Trivia[]

  • Jennifer refers to the "Black Hand" in this contract, the group responsible for assassinating Archduke Franz Ferdinand, eventually leading to the outbreak of World War I.
