Josef and the arms dealer

Escort Service (Russian Mafia) is the tenth contract for the Russian Mafia and takes place in the fourth and last act of Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction in the Northern Province of North Korea.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The contract involves escorting Josef to an arms deal. There is a VIP Sedan outside the HQ ready to be used.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  1. Deliver Josef to the arms deal

  1. Deliver Josef to the Mafia HQ (After contract update e-mail received)

Supplies & Support Given[edit | edit source]

The player is supplied with or given as support:

  • Nothing

The Contract[edit | edit source]

When the contract begins a Mafia Thug will drop off a VIP Sedan next to the HQ entrance, which Josef will enter. You don't have to use this vehicle for the contract, but it won't make much difference if you do. Jump into the driver's seat and escort Josef to the arms deal in the Industrial Zone. When you reach the Industrial Zone you'll find a small amount of Thugs scattered around the area. The arms dealer is at the back of the area, standing next to a North Korean Transport Truck. When you drop off Josef he'll talk to the arms dealer and they'll both walk inside.

NK reinforcements arriving after the ambush

A few moments after Josef enters the building, you will be ambushed by NK forces. Four NK elites will hop out of the nearby truck, and a bunch of helicopters will arrive to drop off soldiers. Two MD-500s will land on nearby roofs and drop off snipers, while an Mi-17 will land in the center of the area and drop off four more elites, two of which are armed with anti-air and anti-tank missile launchers respectively. A BTR APC will also crash through the main gate and begin attacking you. Most of these threats can be dealt with easily with some preparation. As Josef is entering the building place a single C4 neat tot he truck (not too close to the building). When the ambush begins, blow the truck and the soldiers will all be killed. Immediately call in an Air Superiority strike in the area and it will take care of all three helicopters for you. All that leaves is the BTR, which can easily be taken out with a single RPG rocket or AT missile. Josef will exit the building armed with a Shotgun after a few minutes, but if you're prepared you should be able to deal with all threats before he arrives. When all threats are eliminated, get Josef into the sedan and drive back to the HQ to complete the contract.

The value of the contract is $1,000,000. Upon completion of this contract, intel regarding the location of the Four of Spades will be given.

Subject: Contract: 'Escort Service'

Seems simple enough--watch Josef's back while he conducts an arms deal. I'd be on high alert, though. Something about this job doesn't feel right.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

The player enters the HQ. Josef and Sergei are having a discussion

  • Josef: (in Russian) But why would they ask for me, personally?
  • Sergei: (in Russian) They wanted someone they could trust. And who is more trustworthy than Josef, eh?

Sergei turns his attention to the mercenary

  • Sergei: We are negotiating an arms deal with some some very nervous friends of ours. They have asked to deal personally with Josef. They didn't want me sending any of my men, makes them nervous, but I convinced them to allow one escort: you. It is an easy job. And you will have Josef to protect you.

The player remains in the HQ

  • Sergei: Once this job is over, all my problems will be solved.

The player still remains in the HQ

  • Sergei: No more worrying about trusting anyone, and everyone will do what i tell them.

The player continues to remain in the HQ

  • Sergei: Hey, mercenary, come on. Our friends are nervous enough without having to wait for you.

The player speaks to Josef to accept the contract

  • Josef: Don't say anything, we'll talk once we're outside.

Josef and the mercenary step out of the HQ. A Mafia thug parks a VIP Sedan next to you

  • Fiona (if playing as Mattias): You and Josef can catch up on old times.
  • Fiona: This'll be a good opportunity to get to know Josef better.
  • Josef: We'll take my car.

The player enters the sedan with Josef

    • Chris:
    • Jennifer: You realize we're walking into a trap?
    • Mattias: You realize we're walking into a trap?
  • Josef: There is a Russian proverb, "The bear who sees the trap, cannot be caught."

If the player becomes hostile with the Russian Mafia before the arms deal

  • Fiona: Josef isn't going to be happy about this.

The player arrives at the arms deal with Josef

  • Josef: It is a pity we couldn't work together like this before. This is how it should have been.

If the player destroys anything near the arms dealer, he will cancel the deal

  • Josef: That was foolish, mercenary.
  • Fiona: You're a lunatic!

Josef approaches the arms dealer

  • Josef: Let's go.

Josef and the arms dealer walk inside the building

A few moments later a group of NK elites will jump out of the nearby truck, while many other NK forces will begin arriving in the area

  • Fiona: It's an ambush! Sergei set you up.

Josef emerges from the arms deal

  • Fiona: Get Josef and get out of there!

Josef and the player hop into a vehicle together

  • Josef: Get me back to our HQ in one piece and i'll give you a million dollars. Then I'll deal with Sergei.

The player drops Josef off at the HQ

  • Josef: Wait here. I will...take care of things inside.
  • Fiona: Josef is safe and we've got our million dollars. I wouldn't want to be Sergei right now.
