Introduction

The Castro helicopters are the helicopters used by the PLAV in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames.

Overview

The Castro series helicopters are the staple of the PLAV air force in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. The Castro series is a diverse and well balanced group of helicopters that fill the necassary roles needed like transport, support and attack. They are all the same size and shape and handle all the same, however they are fitted out with different weapons and transport storage. They are all very common and can be found all over the Amazon area near PLAV bases. While they at first glance may seem vastly superior to the Universal Petroleum Rogue helicopters in terms of ammo capacity and lifting capabillity, it is extremely important to note that they are probably the least agile helicopter class in the game (not counting the heavy lifters) and something as simple as fighting another helicopter can prove to be a challenge even with miniguns.

Castro Transport

The basic helicopter used by the PLAV. It has one of the biggest storage space for human occupants and for it's size is very versatile. They are easily found flying overhead in PLAV territory and are the staple aircraft for PLAV Outpost missions.

  • Occupants: 8 (One driver, one passenger, 6 passengers in back)
  • Weapons: None

Castro Attack Copter

The same as the transport but now the passeneger positions have been replaced with side mounted miniguns.

  • Occupants: 4 (One driver, one passenger, two port gunners)
  • Weapons: 2 side-mounted miniguns (3000 rounds each), 57mm rockets.

Castro-II Attack Copter

Another step up, this version now has extra weaponry added to the sides which are controlled by the driver.

  • Occupants: 4 (One driver, one passenger, two port gunners)
  • Weapons: 2 side-mounted miniguns, dual miniguns (3000 rounds each), 57mm rockets, frontal 40mm grenade launcher.

Castro-V Attack Copter

The last in the series of Castro helicopters, this one however has had the 40 mm grenade launcher of the II stripped and has had its dual miniguns replaced by machine guns.

  • Occupants: 4 (One driver, one passenger, two port gunners)
  • Weapons: 2 side-mounted miniguns, 4 M60 7.62 cal machineguns (300 rounds each), 57mm rockets.

Real Life

The Castro series is based off the Bell "Huey" UH-1D helicopter widely used during the Vietnam War.
