The Bolivar Quad-50 is a People's Liberation Army of Venezuela Anti-Air gun truck featured in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames.

Overview[]

The Bolivar Quad-50 is an Anti-Air modification of the Bolivar Guntruck. It has a flatbed with a Quad-50 turret on it. The truck is a repainted, barbed wired and possibly stolen Capuchin AA.

It can be purchased from the PLAV shop for $25k. It is described as a cheap alternative to the later-game heavy AA and SAM vehicles but a vehicle like the Guardian SAM costs only $30k, $5k more for 32 Surface-to-Air Missiles and a minigun instead of the Quad-50 turret, probably a serious oversight. The Bolivar Quad-50 cannot be found anywhere.

The turret is gunner controlled, a single player cannot drive and shoot at the same time, they must have an AI occupant or second player to be able to attack and move.

Tactics[]

The weapons on this vehicle are cabale of spewing massive amounts of lead at your target, making it very effective against light armor type 2 vehicles and type 1 helicopters. It is also very good at eliminating and suppressing large amounts of infantry.

It is better to engage light helicopters because heavy attack helicopters could easily destroy the truck in a few seconds. It is also easier to engage light helicopters because the bullets will be able to pierce through the cockpit and harm or even kill the passengers. Armor type 2 helicopter cockpits cannot be penetrated by bullets or shrapnel.

This vehicle is an improvement over the basic Bolivar Guntruck because it has four .50cal HMGs instead of two as well as putting all the firepower under the control of a single gunner. This gun truck also works better than minigun equipped AA vehicles like an Arbenz Mobile AA because .50 caliber rounds do more damage than 7.62mm rounds, to compensate for the lack of rate of fire, there are four .50cal HMGs.

Never use this vehicle in heavy combat, especially when it involves grenades and rocket propelled explosives. It works better at staying out of combat and simply engaging helicopters.

Real life[]

The Bolivar Quad-50 looks like very similar to an M35, except it has a threatening M45 Quadmount turret on the back. Similar Vehicles were used during World War II and the Vietnam War by US forces to act as a deterrent to strafing runs by enemy aircraft.

Trivia[]

  • A separate PLAV asset Quad-50 Turret can be found on a small PLA controlled island south of Cumana.
  • The Boliver series is named in honor of Simón Bolívar, a very important South American military, political, revolutionary leader and hero who played a key role in acquiring the independence of South American countries from Spain in the early 19th century. He originated from Venezuela.
